Capiz

Capiz

The windowpane oyster, Placuna placenta, also known as capiz, is a bivalve marine mollusk in the family of Placunidae.
Among the species in this genus, only the capiz has an outer shell translucent enough for commercial use.
It was used extensively instead of glass in windowpanes in Asia during the 16th century and is still used in handicraft
projects such as lampshades, chandeliers, chessboards, and kitchen utensils like mats, trays, and bowls.
